Canning Breads At Home...Yeah!

photo from unknown cc
When I found this information, I got really jazzed...I can can sweet bread, like banana bread for example, and have them ready all the time for those special late night cravings etc. when my hubby's just not gonna go out and pick something up for me...so, it's for me...all mine, just taking care of my self that's all...Nothing wrong with that, is there?. Go HERE for the post that got me started at NEW LIFE ON A HOMESTEAD.
In a flash...this is what the post said...1.] bread is good for one year. 2.] I don't need a canner. 3.] Use clean wide mouth jars. 4.] Mix up favorite recipe...using 2/3rds cup shorting in recipe asks for instead of one cup usually asks for. 5.] Grease inside of jar. 6.] Fill the jars to 1/2 full, DO NOT OVERFILL. 7.] Bake the bread in jars without lids. 8.] At 325 degrees for 45 minutes....test with toothpick. 9.] When done, clean rims and screw on lids, the jars are hot...be careful. 10.] Eat.... YUMMY...HURRAY!.
Here's another idea, from CANNING GRANNY, go HERE, for Granny's 'Boston Brown Bread' recipe...Thanks Granny.
NOTES for 'steamed' bread...1.] .fill container only 2/3rds full of batter. Clean rims of jars, put on lids to finger tightness. 2.] Place jars etc in simmering water in big pot [canner]. 3.] Place the lid on pot loosely. 4.] Keep water at a low boil...watch and adjust as needed. 5.] Steam 2 hours and 15 minutes. 6.] Take out of canner with lifter, wait for them to cool and seal. 7.] To eat...open jar, place knife between jar and bread going around inside of jar....That's it. YUM Again. Jan

My Orphaned Lamb Milk Replacement Recipe

by NickPiggott cc
O.K.....Our sheep had two cute black lambs...BUT, one rolled under the fence when born....the 'Mama' sheep would NOT take her back. Well, Steve brought it into the house and we became sheep parents right then and there...even our dog, 'Daisy May' helped and responded the first night by sleeping with that cute little lamb ,this she did on her own, because the lamb was crying.... and, we didn't know what to do. Thanks 'Daisy'.
Anyway, here's a good recipe... 'cause sheep don't do well on cow's milk and our sheep just didn't like goat's milk...EWWWL ICKIE!
So, I looked online...lamb milk replacement was so expensive...and we're just farmers. Then, I found this site called 'JUST ANOTHER DAY ON THE FARM' ...ahhhh..much better, making milk myself..what a great idea. I modified his recipe to fit us and this is what I got...
This makes up about 1/2 gallon of milk replacement...O.K?

You will need:
A container...we used an old half gallon milk jug.
1 teaspoon
1 cup measuring utensil

8 oz. [one cup] instant dry non fat powered milk
4 teas. buttermilk power
16 teas. whipping cream
16 teas. 1/2 and 1/2 [half and half]
16 teas. full-milk plain yoghert
8 cups warm water

Shake well until mixed...and serve. We used a baby bottle. Our lamb loved it and did well. Jan and Steve

'BEAUTY FOR ASHES' CD from Brother Russ Bartlett Now Available

Beauty For Ashes CD
Just read the news, RUSSELL BARTLETT, our Austin-based singer/song writer brother has an awesome new CD out. It's just been released this month...BEAUTY FOR ASHES' is now available on CDBaby. I just took a listen and really enjoyed all 10 new songs. Go HERE to listen for yourself. O.K? See if you agree with me.
Russ just finished a cool west coast tour in August withCOLIN GILMORE, that was very rewarding for them both.
AND, Seattle based fans were treated to TWO area gigs...one in Seattle, at the CONOR BYNE PUB and one up north at the Bartlett family's hometown of Stanwood......at THE STANWOOD CAMANO FAIRGROUNDS.
Russell left the Seattle area in 1992 for Texas, and Texas has never been the same. BARTLETT's voice, humor and  country-Americana musical style just fit Texas perfectly. Listen to all five of his CD's on CDBaby and you will be delighted. Enjoy.
 Thanks, T. Jan
